Tis the season of giving. I would argue, however, that “giving” is always in season. To me, it is simply a part of living in and building community. Giving is easy to do, and the gift doesn’t always have to be large to make a big impact. Support your local food bank, invest in a school health program, deliver refreshments to a nursing home, contribute to your local cancer center, donate to an arts organization you believe in. You WILL brighten someone’s day (and yours as well, I bet.). Some of the causes near and dear to my heart:
- Women Playing for TIME (makes a positive impact on women fighting cancer)
- University of Central Florida College of Medicine (funded a scholarship to train the next generation of physicians in memory of my husband who was a radiologist)
- Cornerstone Hospice (serves patients and families seeking quality and dignity in their lives while coping with an end-of-life illness)
- A Gift for Teaching (operates a Free Store for teachers, transferring our community’s surplus supplies and resources to students in need)
Whatever your passion, there is an organization out there that makes that cause its mission. Now it’s up to you to turn your passion into action and make a difference. Happy Holidays!
